our history

Since 1996, NOAH Guitars realizes electric guitars and basses in aeronautical aluminium and locates its laboratories in Lambrate, Milan (Italy) enforcing the handmade tradition characterized by passion and technical competence combined with Italian design. The first NOAH guitar was born from the idea to gather the legacy of two “archetypes”: hybridize National Style “O”’s metal body and its acoustic and aesthetic potentialities with Fender Telecaster’s unique timbre and its pure and essential design. In no time, the aluminium bass was born too: the meeting with Stefano Cerri and Saturnino Celani allows the development of the most important specifics and to realize NOAH Excalibur, an electric bassguitar with a unique sound.

Since the first manufacture, the milling out of the hollow body from a metal slab is the technological innovation that distinguishes the production of NOAH Guitars. The profile of the new artisan and his craftsmanship evolve by combining high technology and highly qualified manual skills: the instrument bodies are entirely made of aeronautical aluminium alloy by using CNC machines, while assembling, knobs, bridges, saddles and finishing are handcrafted.

The dialogue with the musicians and the convergence of competences from very different professional fields and experiences make NOAH instruments unique and in constant evolution. Over time, the fundamental openness towards continuous research and integration of knowledge have made important collaborations possible. The convergences with some Italian designers, through the experimentation of new advanced shapes, distinguish special and iconic instruments of the production. As NOAH Paraffina Guitar, designed by Lorenzo Palmeri, and NO-NO Bass, with mechanical controllers placed in the “eyes” and its black neck made of carbon, designed by Fabio Novembre and dedicated to the bass player Saturnino Celani.

Among some recent projects we also mention the NuNoah Line which completes the catalog by offering a greater choice of guitars, realized with Marco Pancaldi, and NOAH Lap Steel, dedicated to Ben Harper, where traditional shapes combines with innovative challenges offering augmented solution ranges and new inspiration opportunities to musicians.

For more than twenty years now, the two co-founders Renato Ruatti, architect, and Mauro Moia, ex-foreman of an aeronautical industry, have been working together with passion to continue this unique adventure. NOAH Guitars is a project born in the basement, thanks to the moments spent with the friend Giovanni Melis, who deeply desired an “hybrid” guitar; today it stands out among the Milanese artisans recognized as made in Italy excellence. Recently, the team reinforced its competences, officially welcomed Max Pontrelli with role of Master Builder and started an internationalization process, with the yearly participation to important trade shows in the musical field, in Europe and the USA.

“If all it took was the best components and materials any good luthier could do this construction.
However there is room for magic here and no one can know from where that comes. It’s odd what makes a “great guitar”.”
